Landscape Spray Technician

SUPERVISION:                   Big Fish Golf Club General Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Big Fish Golf Club Lac Courte Oreilles Landscape Spray Technician will perform chemical applications on golf course properties and fertilizes tees, greens and fairways applies chemicals on greens. This position is also responsible for compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in golf course care and landscaping preferred.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Must have a Pesticide Applicators License for the 2019/2020 years
  • Must be able to operate a variety of course machinery.
  • Must be able to work under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license preferred.
  • Preference will be given to Native American (25 USC Sec. 472A).
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation.
  • Applicant must be experienced in both liquid and granular chemical application
  • Ability and experience to operate broadcast spreaders, both power and hand sprayers
  • Experienced in golf course maintenance operations
  • Preferably to have a State of Wisconsin Sprayer Applicators License
  • Applicant must be able to perform the following:
    • Formulate and mix chemicals & fertilizers
    • Calibrate equipment used
    • Calculate areas and ratio quantity of chemicals
    • Have knowledge on sprayer nozzles, repair and change nozzles, and what nozzles to use
    • Knowledge of turf doses, how to handle wetting agents and when to use them
    • Keep a daily log and work orders up to date
    • Good Computer knowledge and ability to use MS Excel and Word
  • May be required to attend training as needed.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.

SUPERVISION:                   Big Fish Golf Club General Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Head of Grounds Maintenance reports directly to the General Manager. Under the General Manager’s supervision, the Head of Grounds Maintenance directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in golf course care is required
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Must be a previous Superintendent of a golf course.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of course machinery.
  • Must be able to work under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license preferred.
  • Preference will be given to Native American (25 USC Sec. 472A).
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation.
  • Applicant must:
    • Be able to do manual labor on the grounds of Big Fish Golf Course
    • Rake sand bunkers, weed eating where mowers cannot cut, hand mowing, clearing brush, trim and clean up behind others, pulling weeds, picking up trash, repairing divots made by golfers, replacing water cooler on course when needed, filling divots, along with numerous other duties for the day.
    • This will involve driving a motorized piece of equipment at times

TYPICAL TASKS

The Head of Grounds Maintenance assists in planning, laying out, and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment and paths; and directs work involving the use of the equipment. The incumbent also supervises the repair of all mechanical and motorized equipment used on the golf course; instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment, supervises and participates in the operation maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. This position assists in the personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Requires working knowledge of: the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditions; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and watering and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.

Also requires the ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to direct the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of motorized and mechanical equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations. Requires a valid Driver’s License.
